The 1970s was a big year for the town of Spearville. Here are some things that took place in Spearville during the 1970s:

1. Spearville and Windthorst High School merged into one school in 1971 following the closing of Windthorst High School in 1970.
2. In 1972 - 1973, Spearville resident Kim Stegman won a world title at the World International Youth on Parade Twirling Competition in Honolulu, Hawaii. She also won Miss Majorette for Kansas during a pageant in Wichita. 
3. The mascot of the 1975 Spearville Lancer's was named Lionel

The Celebration of the 70’s event took place October 3, 2025, in conjunction with sinking a new time capsule into the center of Main Street and the celebration of Spearville High School’s Homecoming Football festivities.   Graduates of the 1970-1979 classes were specially invited guests.  This slide show was put together to recap some community highlights of the 1970’s decade.   See how many Spearville-related trivia questions you can answer correctly!
